Pros and Cons of Dye Sublimation Printing

Dye sublimation offers fade free print, with high quality and permanent colors that are embedded in the fabrics or substrate. The specialized ink ink, called dye disbursement, becomes permanently bonded to the finished product. The result is long lasting graphics that are fully washable.

Sublimation is outstanding for producing lines and details within a pattern or images. It is one of the best methods for overall printing. It is low-cost to set up and is great for manufacturing small runs with the printing, with outcomes so close to permanent it is almost unbeatable.

This process yields permanent beautiful colors. Images on fabrics will not fade or crack after multiple washings, and images on hard surfaces will not chip, peel, or scratch easily. 

Dye sublimation also contains no solvents. Solvents are not involved in the printing process so there are no liquids to drain onto the floor, causing stains or damaging the drainage or the environment. 

Disadvantages

One disadvantage of dye sublimation is that the process requires an additional step. Dyes must first be printed onto a transfer paper and heat set during the application into the fabrics.
